JACKSON, Wisconsin: Work Continues On Cleanup Of 55,000 Gallons Of Gas

GRAND MARSH, Wisconsin: 1200 Barrels Of Oil Leak In Adams County

Prediction: as regulations weaken, wages decline, and profit continues to dominate, these are just the beginning of a long trend. Thanks, Scott.

Gasoline contaminates three more Washington Co. wells. That county votes heavily for Walker. I hope they've got his attention.

Don't be ridiculous, Sno--it's Doyle's fault. Or Obama. Or maybe that liberal with the funny name Meade can't seem to remember.

Or it's this: "If companies didn't have to waste so much money complying with stupid government regulations, they would put more money into keeping their pipelines safe and sound."

These events. As in more than one. Plural. Two separate and distinct spillings of many thousands of gallons of toxins.

But yeah. Maybe. That could happen. And we'll find out because of the investigations that have been launched into the...

There HAVE been investigations launched, haven't there? For some reason I can't find a lot of info about it.

I checked with google news on Wisconsin's pipeline spills. It's big news in Canada and bad news for the Keystone pipeline. The feds in the U.S. are investigating.

Yeah, the Enbridge spill is getting a lot of press. Not so much the 55,000 gallon gasoline spill out by Milwaukee. West Shore Pipe Line Company has already got that pipeline back up and running.

Feds block pipeline re-opening after Wis. spill
The U.S. Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration announced Tuesday it has blocked the company from restarting the pipeline until it submits a restart plan, analyzes the failed pipe and brings in an independent evaluator to investigate.

Gas prices will go up... and Meade will blame Obama.

Looks like pipeline safety is the responsibility of the U.S. Transportation Department's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, so for me to question how/if Walker is handling this was off the mark. How about contamination of private wells, though?

In Enbridge's last spill (a year ago), U.S. pipeline regulators fined it $3.7 million for the spill, their largest ever penalty.
The NTSB said it found a complete breakdown of company safety measures, and that Enbridge employees performed like "Keystone Kops" trying to contain it.

(from link above)

Environmental regulation ought to include a review of standing procedures for spills, if it doesn't already.

At least seven wells are now contaminated with enzyme from the West Shore pipeline spill. Drink up Republican voting Washington county.

http://host.madison.com/wsj/news/local/ ... 963f4.html

"The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has issued a drinking water advisory after a major gasoline spill in the town of Jackson. The DNR says water samples from private wells near the spill have detected gasoline compounds above health advisory levels. Private well owners in the area are advised to use bottled water, or water from a known safe source for drinking, cooking and preparing food."

At first glance it should be surprising that lack of attention by our state "media" regarding THESE stories is surprising. I get the feeling from contributors to this thead that attention directed at the perp's in the form of street heat is not considered part of the solution. Hey, what the hell! Just sit back and let others sort out in due time, with somewhat more difficultly, what you could have if it wasn't so inconvenient. Just remember, you always get more of what you accept...

What actions would you suggest? I'm not sure a boycott would be the most effective tool in this situation.

Benzene (which is carcinogenic), not enzyme.

It makes sense that the gasoline spill would do more damage since it's thinner and can travel through the ground a lot better than unrefined oil.

The oil spill is higher profile news because of company's history and its intentions to run more lines across state and country borders, but by far the most damage is from the gas spill.
