Tyranny of the minority

If it's news, but not politics, then it goes here.

Tyranny of the minority

Postby Crockett » Wed Aug 01, 2012 10:05 am

Only in Madison would this be news:

"Not in my home: 'Smart meter' foes push for right to opt out of having one."

"But at least 33 Madison Water Utility customers do have a problem (with the new wireless meters)."

According to Madison Water Utility's website:

"Madison Water Utility now provides water service to more than 62,000 locations in the City of Madison, Town of Madison, Shorewood Hills, Maple Bluff, Blooming Grove, and Town of Burke."

33/62,000 = 0.05%. Why is this news? Why does the article make a news story out of the 0.05% of people? Who cares?

Damn, Crocket. Do you punch people out of your way on the street?

I mean, it's only one person out of thousands. Why worry about?

Do a search on "against smart water meters" and you'll see this is a national movement not just Madison. I confess I don't get it -- I think the information should make it easier for the utility to respond to fluctuations and trends in demand on a real-time basis, and eventually might help individuals and businesses use water during off-peak demand periods at a reduced rate, as we do with electricity.

But we might as well know what other people are thinking, and sometimes environmental dangers are not found top-down, but are first signaled by an accumulation of anecdotal evidence.

Only in Crockett's fucked-up head would something run on a slow news day by notorious piece of shit madison.com reflect poorly on the city as a whole, to say nothing of characterizing the whines of a handful of disgruntled jackasses as "tyranny."

Something tells me you've led a soft-ass life. I suppose it's a "tragedy" when your corner liquor store runs out of your favorite beer too?

We let anti-vaccine crazies get their 15 minutes in the media, this seems no different to me. Has anyone asked Jenny McCarthy for her opinion on radio waves?

NRA membership is about 1% of the population. We seem to let them get more than 1% of the say on gun policy.

The problem is not the water meters, it's the fluoride.

They're stealing our precious bodily fluids. No fluoridation without representation.

Does this really happen?

I drink Bud Light. They don't run out of that, ever.

Only if you think Bud Light is beer.

Why is light beer like making love in a canoe?

They are both fucking near water.
