Are you truly interested? Enough so as to actually go up to the Capitol, apply for a permit, and find out? I doubt you are.

I hope the singers apply for a permit. There is no reason to deny a permit, so it will be fun to see what unreasonable illogic will be used to deny it.

Well, that's not what I wrote, actually. But you do what you think you need to do, New Media Meade the Moderate.

I'm not in the tea party, like our moderate pal here is, but I'm sure that while a Tory wishing to sing "God Save the King" in 1773 was glad and eager to apply for a permit from the local magistrate or whoever, the guys who actually participated in the destruction of the tea weren't nearly so compliant. They probably didn't check in with the harbor master or fill out a document, in triplicate, listing a start and end time or attach a copy of their drivers licenses before protesting the government.

Sarcasm aside for a moment (if you can), Jason, do you know for a fact that that is what is required for demonstration permit at the Capitol? Or are you just making that up?

Couple of points.

One -- these permit rules aren't some long-standing tradition that everybody's always followed. No, the rules we're talking about here were concocted by Walker's DOA in December 2011, targeting dissent in general and the Solidarity Sing Along in particular.

Two -- It's not even just about the permit itself. It's the permit plus an open-ended fee that the DOA can assess for whatever level of police presence THEY deem that your event needs.

Point Two is designed to fine the Sing Along out of existence as soon as the group starts playing by Point One.

It's an abuse of power, and quite likely an unconstitutional one at that -- the ACLU has a lawsuit ready to go should the crackdown actually occur.

The new Capitol police chief says "name calling" will not be tolerated.

Be careful not to call the protesters in the Capitol "union thugs." I assume that falls under the rubric of name calling.

What about nickname calling, Chief? Will the live entity that calls itself "Henry Vilas" no longer be allowed to call itself by that nickname while visiting the Rotunda? He can get a special permit, can't he - to dance his special dance and sing his special songs: "I Am The Gentle Angry Henry Vilas" and lead his cult followers in that old-time favorite, "We Shall Not, We Shall Not Be Having Bowel Movements" ?

Who can forget the time Bob Dylan applied for and received a permit to use electric amplification at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival?

Leading to purist Alan Lomax to pull the plug and get into a fight with Dylan's manager, Albert Grossman.

No more intimidation, protesters. Also, get a permit, Solidarity Intimidators. Whose house? Everyone's house!

Wow, that is quite an animated response for a "Purported" Capital "crackdown."

It almost seems like you are happy that something might happen but yet hasn't happened and then you toss sh*t at another poster because the ACLU is ready in case something happens.

Good point, Jason.: Solidarity Singers = 1965 Bob Dylan

Maybe they could plug in and add Maggie's Dairy Farm to their next sing-a-long session. They could then segue into Like a Rolling Segway Boy followed, finally, by It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It takes a High-Speed Rail Train to Cry.

That would cause Governor Scott "Pete Seeger" Walker to emerge from his office and ax their power cord. Presto - instant statewide sympathy for the corrupt teachers' union!
