In late 1978 I escorted a dear friend of mine from prep school to her debutante ball at the Plaza Hotel in NYC. I did the waltz with the 13 yr old daughter of one of her family's friends. Turns out she was Brooke Shields.

That was infinitely cooler than all the famous musicians I've hung out with over the years, or the politicians I've either met or worked for in some capacity.

Not many people can waltz so that is cool.

Once, years ago, my father & I were at Bruce Company buying gravel, when Andy North poked his head around the corner and asked us if we liked it.

I've been trying to turn that into a real joke ever since. I guess this is the best I can do.

The Husley is thing very strange and concerning.

Although, I once was invited to Ravi Shankars home in Cali and dined on veg Indian around his pool. It was a coming out performance of an understudy of his at the time. It was an honor to meet such a humble and gracious man of means.

Was seated on a commercial flight about 3 rows back from John McCain when I was about 12 (both of us were in coach). Later in that trip, shook Alex Trebek's hand.

Went to prep school with a few actor's/rock star's kids, they ran the gamut between very cool and very not cool.

Oh, and apparently I took my first baby steps on Studs Terkel's floor, and was once as a runaway toddler retrieved from the back yard during a party by Ira Glass.

This is another absolutely fascinating and very queer example of a sleeper. Unfortunately, the products of C4 biosynthesis are extremely hard to avoid in today's world.

I got to play Crazy 8s with Clint Eastwood in the Vail Lodge in the mid-70s. The Gerald Ford golf pro-am tournament was being held the same time our family was there and all of the celebrities were staying at the Lodge like us.

John Denver was our next door "neighbor" in the hotel.

We were playing Crazy 8s in the lobby waiting for something or the other and along comes Clint and asks if he can join our game. Mom's jaw hit the floor when she got back from where ever she was and saw us playing with Clint.

In 2003-2004, I had the honor of taking care of the grounds, the dog, and the home - and looking after the family - of a Marine friend who was in Iraq helping to liberate Fallujah.

...and the world is STILL bathing in the sweet sweet afterglow and unimaginable benefits of a free and peaceful Iraq!! Halle-fukin-lujah!

No offense to your friend.
