Lyin' Ryan

Postby Beaver » Mon Aug 20, 2012 8:27 pm

He's been nominee for only a week and already Ryan is caught in at least two lies...or is it more? It's hard to keep track of them all.

http://news.yahoo.com/presented-letters ... itics.html
Presented With Letters, Ryan Admits Requesting Stimulus Cash

"After repeated denials, Paul Ryan has admitted he requested stimulus cash even after sharply criticizing the program... "I'm not one [of those] people who votes for something then writes to the government to ask them to send us money. I did not request any stimulus money," the congressman answered. But as we've now learned, Ryan did write letters. He did request stimulus funds. "The Olympics may be over but Paul Ryan could have gotten a gold medal in hypocrisy," a senior administration official told ABC's Jake Tapper. "As someone who spends all day every day railing against government spending, but then secretly seeks millions in funds for pet projects, he is as Washington as it gets."

‘Ryan criticizes Obama on ’08 GM plant closure from before he took office’

"Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan inaccurately said Thursday that President Barack Obama “broke his promise” by failing to keep a General Motors plant open that closed in 2008 – before the Democrat took office’.

“I remember President Obama visiting it when he was first running, saying he’ll keep that plant open,” Ryan said at a campaign stop in Ohio Thursday, recounting the fact that his high school friends worked at the GM assembly plant. “One more broken promise. We used to build Tahoes and Suburbans. One of the reasons that plant got shut down was $4 gasoline. You see, this costs jobs. The president’s terrible energy policies are costing us jobs.”

‘In fact, Obama made no such promise and the plant halted production in December 2008, when President George W. Bush was in office’.

Ryan's budget plan doesn't sound good.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/2 ... 23020.html
Paul Ryan's Budget Would Lower Taxes For Wealthy, Raise Them For Everyone Else

"If the budget Rep. Paul Ryan put forward as the ranking Republican on the House Budget Committee had been enacted last year, most Americans would be paying big time. Under the Wisconsin congressman's plan, the bottom 80 percent of American earners would have paid about $1,700 more in taxes on average than under President Obama’s plan, according to an analysis by the progressive Center for Tax Justice. Despite the boost, the government would have lost out on $183 billion in revenue 2011 and at least $2 trillion over a decade, thanks in part to tax cuts for the top 20 percent.

It seems that the only Americans getting a tax break under Ryan’s plan are the super-rich. Those in the top 1 percent in terms of income would receive a more than $200,000 tax cut, compared to Obama’s budget proposals, according to the Center for Tax Justice analysis. "These figures make obvious that Congressman Ryan’s budget plan has nothing to do with balancing the budget, but has everything to do with creating a system that takes more from the poor and less from the rich,” the authors of the report wrote."

Here is a list of five lies that Paul Ryan told when he gave his speech at the Republican National Convention last night:

1. Lie: President Obama is the "greatest threat" to Medicare.

Truth: Obama didn't make any cuts to Medicare benefits; he made cuts to provider reimbursements, to improve cost efficiency and extend the fiscal security of Medicare by eight years. According to the Medicare actuary, "[Obama's] Affordable Care Act makes important changes to the Medicare program and substantially improves its financial outlook."1

But Ryan actually does want to cut benefits. He proposed dismantling Medicare and replacing it with a voucher system, leaving millions of seniors to come up with more money to pay for care out of pocket.2,3

2. Lie: President Obama didn't save a General Motors plant in Wisconsin.

Truth: First, Obama wasn't even in office when the GM plant closed. Second, Obama never made a promise to save it.4

3. Lie: President Obama ignored recommendations of a bipartisan debt commission.

Truth: Paul Ryan actually sat on that commission. And he led Republicans in voting down the commission's own recommendation. So the commission never gave a report to Obama, because Ryan himself voted to kill the report before it could.5

4. Lie: President Obama is responsible for the downgrading of the U.S. Credit Rating

Truth: House Republicans, including Paul Ryan, held the full faith and credit of the United States hostage to try to ransom it for trillions of dollars in cuts to social programs without increasing taxes on the wealthy one dime. Standard & Poors said specifically, "We have changed our assumption on [revenue] because the majority of Republicans in Congress continue to resist any measure that would raise revenues." That's why our nation's credit rating was downgraded.6,7

5. Lie: Ryan wants to protect the "weak."

Truth: Ryan's biggest feat in his political career was proposing a budget with dramatic cuts to programs benefiting the poor. He'd cut Medicaid by one third, take away health care insurance from 30 million Americans, and cut Pell Grants for 1 million students. All so that he could give more tax breaks to the rich.8

It is correct that Obama didn't promise to save GM, but neither did Ryan say he promised. Change or muddy a word or two and it can result in a whole different meaning.

Transcript from Obama's Speech in Janesville.

Obama's quote: "And I believe that if our government is there to support you, and give you the assistance you need to re-tool and make this transition, that this plant will be here for another hundred years."

Youtube with Ryans words.

Ryan quoted Obama: “I believe that if our government is there to support you … this plant will be here for another hundred years.”

Nice try, Sandi. Ryan lied, the whole world caught it, your feeble attempt to parse it away is silly.

Okay, so one of the lies MIGHT have been a deliberate "changing or muddying of a word or two" in an attempt to give the quote a completely different meaning, which technically isn't a lie.

That makes Ryan look a lot better now.

Hey don't attack the messenger. All I did was post an excerpt from linked data.I guess you are saying that the youtube clip was doctored to change Ryan's voice, maybe so. I added it only for information. You can take it for what ever it is worth, but please don't "nice try" me until you look at the data.

The other alleged lies I didn't research, so maybe they are lies, and maybe not.

Luckily information exists to make those determinations and has been posted in this very thread. Take a look.

When FoxNews prints that Ryan's speech was "Dazzling, Deceiving, Distracting" you pretty much know what went on.

I'll bet he correctly named the members of his family. So, there's that.

Today's Ryan lie exposed: he didn't run a 2 hr 50 min marathon like he claimed earlier in the week. It was 4 hrs and 1 min.

Did Paul Ryan Really Run a Sub-Three-Hour Marathon? No, He Didn't.
http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/ ... aims_.html

"Paul Ryan fessed up. Turns out that, as most experienced runners suspected, Mitt Romney’s running mate never ran a marathon in less than three hours. In fact, he never ran one in under four hours. The news settle a (very minor) controversy that broke out within runner circles after 42-year-old Ryan told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt on Aug. 22 that he had run a “two hour and fifty-something” marathon. Runner’s World started looking into the issue, and by Friday evening had figured out that then-20-year-old Ryan ran a marathon in 1990, where he finished in 4 hours, 1 minute, and 25 seconds. A Ryan spokesman confirmed the news late Friday."
