I think it's an odd thing that so many people were more interested in changing Jeremy Ryan instead of changing the Government. There will always be Jeremy Ryans, for better or worse depending on your opinion. But what methods are you using to be more effective?

There are very few individuals who by name I would wish death or illness. Jeremy Ryan is certainly not among that small group. I don't know know that much about him but I get the impression that he makes valid points from time-to-time and is wildly misguided at other times. Still he has a level of passion that's admirable, even though it leads him astray occasionally. I read his blog where he claimed that the shooter of Bo Morrison was a murderer and racist. Jeremy demonstrated not only a lack of factual knowledge of self-defense laws, but a propensity to be carelessly judgmental while happily ignorant of the facts. He has plenty of company in that regard. Since he is in a reflective mood perhaps he'll think about it. Madison has a long history of colorful local folks, and like 'em or find 'em annoying, he fits in with the tradition. I hope he doesn't think I'm racist because I used the word "colorful." But that's the level of superficiality at which I've seen a lot of people operate.

No, I didn't cry when I read his blog, but there is a certain sadness about it. I found it interesting that, on one hand, his contempt and stubbornness directed against the people he hates is as strong as ever, but he shows complete resignation to his physical ailments. He might be better off to redirect some of that stubbornness towards his health. I wish him well and good luck.

Jeremy "Segway Boy" Ryan is not terminally ill.

Last week, he claims to have visited St. Mary's Hospital. Allegedly, according to his own reports, they suggested he get an outpatient sleep study. He was not admitted to the hospital, much less hospice.

Many in his circle, medical and otherwise, have suggested that Jeremy has some psychological issues which should be addressed. He has, publicly, at several of his known FaceBook pages (Boris Ryan, Segway Jeremy Ryan, Defending Wisconsin PAC, etc.) rejected any suggestion that he may need psychological help.

Jeremy has a page at "wepay.com" at which he is still actively soliciting online contributions for his "last minute expenses." At that page, he also references an essay he wrote 2 weeks ago, and published at his Facebook page(s), in which he alleges that he is "on his deathbed." He has been spotted (and photographed) out and about downtown Madison on his Segway every day since that posting.

I do not have a political agenda for alerting anyone reading this to these facts. I do want to make sure that people on both sides of the political spectrum understand that Jeremy Ryan claimed 23 days ago to be "in his final hours," seeking to "check himself into hospice." Since then, he has posted online moochings seeking free eye exams and gratis dental care. These are hardly the machinations of a man "on his deathbed," as he claimed.

He was spotted outside his apartment earlier today, on his Segway, being questioned by three uniformed Madison police officers. He did not appear to be in ill health; quite the contrary, he rocked back and forth in very animated fashion on his mobility device while having a dialog with the police.

Stop helping this guy. Stop giving him attention. Stop emboldening him. He is "the boy who cried wolf." And if you want to give him money, or smokes, or pot, or any of the things he posts online moochings seeking on a daily basis, it's your choice. But do it out of the simple kindness of your heart. Please don't do it because you think you are helping a young man who has been dealt a bad hand, and is in his final days or hours. Because it's just not true.

Most of Jeremy's problems have been brought on by his own actions. He had a shady history before finding "protest" as a life calling. Don't let him manipulate you simply because he's embraced your politics, making you believe you owe him something.

How to win friends and influence people.

A frequent state Capitol protester known for navigating the statehouse on a Segway was charged Monday with two counts of misdemeanor disorderly conduct for allegedly harassing journalists working in and near the second-floor Capitol press room.

Jeremy Ryan, 24, of Madison is accused of hurling taunts and insults at journalists, including singing insulting songs about the death of a longtime journalist, Richard Wheeler. Wheeler died suddenly in November 2011, and the Capitol press room was named for him after his death.

Ryan also shouted derogatory names for news organizations, including the State Journal, a criminal complaint says.

When they have nothing on you they pull a disorderly conduct charge out of their ass.

Well many civil rights Heroes have been charged with fake crimes by immoral fascist dictators.

Keep up the good fight Jeremy!

Ryan responded that he was exercising his First Amendment right to free speech.

And he has a damn good case, I hope:

"[A]llegedly harassing journalists", "accused of hurling taunts and insults at journalists", "singing insulting songs", shouting "derogatory names for news organizations, including the State Journal, a criminal complaint says."

"Ryan regularly stood outside the Capitol press room in June and July, yelling at reporters" in a loud voice, and "in a chanting-singing voice".

Harassing, taunting, and insulting journalists and government officials, assemblymen, commissioners, and petty bureaucrats should be criminal?

Au contraire!

Come on Stu! You're smarter than that!

You can support someone's freedom of speech while not liking their particular message.

Even a dumb wop girl like me can figure that one out.

What a fucking dumbass. Dick Wheeler did more for shining light on the inner workings of Wisconsin's government than anyone. He devoted his life to providing information and access even when those in power may have wanted to do their work in secret. Dick Wheeler and the family members who carry on his work deserve admiration and respect.

You can. I can. An ordinary person can. Even an ordinary person who is socialist can.

But no way is The Commissioner ordinary.

He's doctrinaire.

ADDED: And Stu Levitan, chairman of Madison's influential Landmarks Commission, needs to resign from the Commission.

Why? Because his comment above, alone, reveals his lack of an adequate understanding and respect for the principles of free speech and equal justice under the law.

We ordinary citizens cannot afford to have government officials like Stu Levitan wielding power and authority when he clearly and repeatedly demonstrates a misunderstanding of proper boundaries. As Chairman, Stu holds the tie-breaking vote on the powerful Landmarks Commission. This is unacceptable.

Stu, step down. As a licensed lawyer, you are an embarrassment to your profession and to the school of law from which you were given a diploma. As a government official, you are a hazard to us all.

"Has some psychological issues"... "may need psychological help".

Suggesting that a political dissident or a political undesirable is crazy or psychologically unstable is a common tactic used in the long history of marginalizing and muting opponents of political agendas.
