Well, I guess if you want the fire to get bigger, you give it more oxygen.

Aside from that, I suppose a lot of people are vaguely aware of the dangers of smoke inhalation, and assume that it's a problem of not enough oxygen. But lack of oxygen is not actually the problem there.

So he was saying that there might have been a problem with smoke inhalation from the electrical fire and then made a joke about not being able to open the windows?

Um, I don't know. If it was meant as a joke, it was pretty dumb. And even good humor often doesn't make sense if you dissect it too finely afterwards.

I'm not saying the guy's a brilliant comedian. I just don't think he's oblivious enough to have intended the airplane windows remark to be a serious suggestion.

Now if it had been Dan Quayle...

The pool reporters who were actually present for the airplane-windows thing say that Romney was obviously attempting to make a joke.

From the updateto the original story that was linked to on the previous page of this thread:

The Los Angeles Times story that relayed Romney's airplane remark to the world was based off a pool report, which was written by the New York Times's Ashley Parker. When we asked Parker this morning whether it seemed as if Romney made the mark in jest, she left no doubt. "Romney was joking," she e-mailed. Parker told us that while the pool report didn't explicitly indicate that Romney was joking, it was self-evident that he was. "The pool report provided the full transcript of his comments on Ann's plane scare," she said, "and it was clear from the context that he was not being serious."

The Blaze hears the same thing from William Everitt, who attended the Saturday night Beverly Hills fund-raiser where the remark happened:

"Basically he was retelling the story and when he said ‘I don’t know why they don’t have roll down windows on airplanes,’ he looked at the audience and everyone laughed,” Everitt told TheBlaze. “It was a clearly delivered joke … There were 1,000 people there that will tell you the same thing.”

Well, there's a video here.

Yeah he was probably joking. Even if he wasn't he can get away with pretending he was.

But you're right, that was pretty damn lame. Extremely poor delivery.

Interesting though, that so many people have to be told he was joking. Anybody else and there would have been no question. But considering the source, even ol' Kurt over there had to think twice or thrice about it, and go hunting on the internet to make sure. He WAS joking, wasn't he? Yeah he was joking. I think. He MUST have... aw dammit I have to go check.

"We have got to reform our tax system," Romney said at a morning event here. "Small businesses most typically pay taxes at the individual tax rate. And so our individual income taxes are the ones I want to reform. Make them simpler. I want to bring the rates down. By the way, don't be expecting a huge cut in taxes because I'm also going to lower deductions and exemptions. But by bringing rates down we will be able to let small businesses keep more of their money so they can hire more people."

So he's going to lower deductions and exemptions. Not only will my taxes not go down, but they WILL go up. I'm not a small business so these changes in the tax code will do me no good. And where is written that as soon as you give small business owners more money, they'll magically hire people. Corporations are seeing record profits and they're not hiring. I have nothing against these business owners, but I'd like someone to explain to me how this automatically happens.

This made me uncomfortable. I so wish I would have been there to see it.

Now Romney says his 47% remarks were "completely wrong" and that he actually is for 100% of the people. That's his story and he is sticking to it (until he comes up with another story).

The latest numbers just released show that unemployment is going down and job creation is growing. So what does Romney's camp say in response? They claim the numbers were cooked.

It is completely wrong. I share Moderate Romney's disapproval of those statements by Vulture Capitalist Romney.
