The Paranoia Grows

Postby wack wack » Mon Oct 08, 2012 11:57 am

I didn't see that this has been addressed yet...

As the presidential election reaches its apex in intensity, so have arguments from the right that polls and economic statistics -- the numbers used to explain the 2012 campaign -- are not to be trusted.

Is anyone surprised? Will anyone be surprised when the right subsequently rejects the election results, and furthers its wholesale disrespect of the President?

I will borrow an anecdote from another forum, so take it for what it is. Someone who leans left went down to Texas to visit Republican relatives. The Texans were making claims about Obama that were demonstrably false, so the visitor began mildly rebutting with facts. The Texans defiantly stated that they don't let liberal facts get in the way of their Republican truth.

I know it is just an anecdote, but I liked it a whole lot better when the right-wing was just ignoring facts and science, rather than brazenly championing myths as the basis for governance.

Hey, I lived in Republican strongholds in the western states for 20 years. About a third to a half of Republicans there are completely unhinged about Obama. They were unhinged about Clinton, too, but since Obama is black, "Muslim" and "socialist" these people are quadruply unhinged now. These are people who are so afraid of another four years for Obama that they will countenance about anything to prevent it.

The Republican Party used to just feed this paranoia at election time, thinking they could control the nutcases after the election. Today, the nutcases run the show in many states. Look at Wisconsin. There aren't very many rational people left in the Republican Party.
