If it's news, but not politics, then it goes here.

That thing needs to be mounted on some sort of pedestal that can rotate and pivot the eye

Dogs and cats living together? that's nothing:

Beelzebub's bat, a walking catfish and a frog that sounds like a bird are among 126 species introduced to science in just a year in the incredibly diverse Greater Mekong region of Southeast Asia, according to a report released this week by the conservation group World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

God only knows what's crawling out of the Yucatan as we speak.

Both pro- and anti-gun supporters weighed in on the idea of registering weapons in the United States and the use of assault weapons.

"I, like you am a former Marine corporal and I support you 110%," wrote CNN iReport user TMuttDaddy. "It's nobody's business how many guns I own.

A national news source is quoting someone who goes by "TMuttDaddy" in a piece of supposedly professional journalism.

What time does iGotDaBallz come on with the sports report?

It will all end in a flash:
If calculations of the newly discovered Higgs boson particle are correct, one day, tens of billions of years from now, the universe will disappear at the speed of light, replaced by a strange, alternative dimension, one theoretical physicist calls “boring.”

(CNN) -- The argument started over a red card.

It escalated when the referee fatally stabbed the player.

It ended when the player's enraged family members stoned the referee to death and dismembered his body.

Even for soccer, where violent outbreaks are all-too-common, what happened last week in a northern Brazil village was extraordinary.....

......The player didn't make it to the hospital alive, police said. When the news reached his family back at the soccer field, the mob took retribution on Silva.

They stoned him to death.

And they cut his body into pieces.

Police later identified the suspects, easily.

They could be seen clearly in video images of the gory incident recorded with a cell phone.

Just think about that scene for a minute. I wonder how many people just stood there and watched it. How many little kids.

How numb can we get?

I learned of the crime and punishment of Robert-François Damiens on another board recently, and this incident recalled it to me.

Fetched from his prison cell on the morning of 28 March 1757, Damiens allegedly said "La journée sera rude" ("The day will be hard").[4] He was tortured first with red-hot pincers; his hand, holding the knife used in the attempted assassination, was burned using sulphur; molten wax, molten lead, and boiling oil were poured into his wounds. He was then remanded to the royal executioner, Charles Henri Sanson, who harnessed horses to his arms and legs to be dismembered. But Damiens' limbs did not separate easily: the officiants ordered Sanson to cut Damiens' joints with an axe. Once Damiens was dismembered to the applause of the crowd, his reportedly still-living torso was burnt at the stake.

Not the part about the boiling oil so much, but when he was dismembered to the applause of the crowd. At the time, I was depressed at the reminder that we as a species and culture are not so far removed from this brutality being dispensed with billing as justice, and that fellow humans would choose to witness the event, let alone cheer. However, in the context of this thread, maybe it is a positive. How can Apocalypse be on our doorstep now, when it wasn't in 1757, or during the Inquisition, etc.?

I truly am hopeful for the day when mob psychology consistently stops folks from harming each other. I don't know if science would back homo sapiens in this instance.

I would apologize, but we are talking about the apocalypse.
