Ya, well, that article caught my eye too, and I was all ready to jump on it. But the Overture supporters are just looking to get some of the cuts they suffered restored. I have no idea about the merits of their request, but you can't expect them to just roll-over and play dead when their promised funding gets cut.

Booking the Andrea True Connection would be a huge upgrade for Overture. Maybe with Ron Jeremy as MC for the gig?

Why do you hate small business Moustache Man.

Sachi Komai, co-owner of Anthology, which sits across State Street from the Overture Center, said that patrons attracted by the arts add to her business.

"Over the past several months we have watched the Orpheum crash and burn and would hate for the Overture Center to share a similar fate," Komai said.

Nice to see that we have yet another OC thread. I was trying to find some old statistics I once posted and it was fun to read through the old threads about crash and burn, failure, yadda, yadda, yadda. Well the stat I was looking for was the amount the city subsidized the Civic Center.

http://www.cityofmadison.com/finance/do ... oper10.pdf

1.4 million in 2001. Where was the outrage then. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The place sells out. There are free events and galleries for anyone in the city to see. And from that PDF in regards to the CC.

The Madison Civic Center serves as a cultural, entertainment, educational and social center for the south central
Wisconsin region. The Madison Civic Center strives to: present a broad spectrum of high quality cultural
activities in all arts disciplines; provide a place for local, regional, national and international arts groups and
individuals to perform and exhibit; provide an accessible place for all Madison area citizens to experience and
enjoy quality and diverse cultural, entertainment and social events; enrich and enhance community cultural
awareness by introducing new artists and new artistic forms; develop new audiences for the arts through
community outreach and educational programs; and provide regional leadership and advocacy on behalf of the
arts as an integral part of society.

Same goes for the OC. Those dollars were from 11 years ago for a facility much smaller than the OC and when you account for inflation, what the OC is asking for is not unreasonable.

Sure, some of their programming may not be what all of us want, but people out there still dig on it and buy those tickets. I like how people pick out one or two shows they don't like and immediately the whole place sucks.

Bdog, you can sit around on your lazy fat ass eating Twinkies hoping someone reads your dribble blog, but me, I choose to go out and enjoy the arts that are being offered to me.

By the way, Huck, I'm sure you knew I would get in on this one. :D

Only an effete, Overture snob would characterize the salt-of-the-earth regular folks as clinging to their guns and twinkies.

When is the last time anybody has seen a twinkie? What an old cliche. I don't think they are even in vending machines anymore.

Little Debbie® brand snacks are the way to go yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Also excellent, snap them up if you find them!
