Abortion: the rape/incest exemption

Postby Henry Vilas » Fri Oct 26, 2012 12:05 pm

Mitt Romney says he would allow a rape/incest exemption when abortion is outlawed (again), even though his own political party's platform allows for no such exemptions. If elected, he says he would appoint Supreme Court justices similar to Scalia and Thomas. If the Supreme Court overturns Roe v Wade, states could again enforce anti-abortion laws (which are still on the books).

But how would an exemption for rape or incest be written into the law? Would a woman have to show a police report to obtain one? Or whould an alleged perpetrator have to be arrested and charged (or even have to be convicted first)?
If so, then it might be way to late to get the abortion.

Would all miscarriages result in an criminal investigation to see if it was spontaneous or induced?

Troubling.

If nothing else the increase in rape charges would be hilariously ironic.
