Klimate Kooks Korrekt

If it's news, but not politics, then it goes here.

Meantime, we're starting to rethink the rationality of rebuilding on the East Coast barrier islands -- not because we're listening to science, but because actuaries rule:

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/29/opini ... ce.html?hp

The government's flood-risk last year was a liability second in size only to Social Security.

Homeowners and businesses should be responsible for purchasing their own flood insurance on the private market, if they can find it. If they can’t, then the market is telling them that where they live is too dangerous. If they choose to live in harm’s way, they should bear the cost of that risk — not the taxpayers.

Interesting movie:

Even more interesting response from a Bill O'Reilly lover. Not what you would expect:

I wonder if she's found out yet what the consequences of breaking from the party line are.

My guess is that her friends aren't thinking "Well if she feels that strongly about it, maybe I should check this out."

But maybe a few of them are. Maybe there really is a sea change going on.

Now that more of those so-called experts and so-called scientists are saying the so-called drought is probably due to so-called global warming, this probably belongs here.
Drought threatens to close Mississippi to barges
After months of drought, companies that ship grain and other goods down the Mississippi River are being haunted by a potential nightmare: If water levels fall too low, the nation's main inland waterway could become impassable to barges just as the harvest heads to market.

Oh, if only we had a well maintained and efficient transport system that wasn't dependent on water levels or our clogged freeways.

Interesting things just keep popping up.

John Hofmeister, former President of Shell Oil, says the debate on Global Warming is over. His criteria is that a tipping point has been reached; "once a critical mass of public officials has determined that something is a problem, then the debate is effectively settled."

But he considers the problem to be waste management.
So if we approach the issue of global warming/climate change as an issue of waste management – which I would prefer to do – rather than some kind of global crisis which remains undefined and unresolved. Let’s deal with what we know how to deal with. We know how to deal with waste.

As the author points out, as of yet we don't know how to deal with automobile waste. In my own humble opinion that's because there's no profit motivation in it yet.

Well, he'll be here in the morning to post a link to that 1975 Newsweek article about global cooling. Also: Clinton's penis.

Peer reviewed science = hoax. 40% of American's believe the intensified storms are a sign of the end times.

Get ready for a few changes. We live in interesting times.

According to the report, animal and plant species are flowering, laying eggs, or migrating in different ways and at different times than in the past, and according to the USGS, this pattern is accelerating.

"These geographic range and timing changes are causing cascading effects that extend through ecosystems, bringing together species that haven't previously interacted and creating mismatches between animals and their food sources."

It causes me to hark back to last summer when we were seeing that strange looking big huge iridescent bug that turned out to be a species of wasp normally found much further south.

It looks like we might have a little more time than we thought.
“The Earth’s mean temperature rose sharply during the 1990s,” said Terje Berntsen, a professor at the University of Oslo who worked on the study. “This may have caused us to overestimate climate sensitivity.”

The findings also show the effect of reduced airborne particulates from burning coal, which may decrease the cloud cover that cools the earth, probably has less of an impact on climate through indirect cooling than originally projected.

Given that the usual patterns for growth and many forms of decay are slow periods followed by spurts of major activity or trauma, that makes sense. We just have no dependable reference to tell us how long this slow period will be or even if we're really in one.

Which means the whole thing is a scam the "scientists" are pulling on us so they can get "grants."

Not sure. Too cold to think about global warming today.
