The gun thread

If it's news, but not politics, then it goes here.

There's logic for ya. So as long as the gun industry increases its production, and the number of guns grows faster than the number of gun murders, we're all good, right?

Well, to be honest - I've got absolutely no proof that Ned ever stopped rolling around in his own shit.

That's some mighty nice selective reasoning there.
Another way to read that map is that only Colombia and parts of Central America have worse gun-murder rates than the U.S.

Probably better to compare the US to other developed countries, not Colombia or South Africa or whatever. (Unless Colombia or South Africa is your model for what the US should look like....)

Here's a table of firearm death rates (per 100k population per year) for the 40 richest countries. The US rate is about three times as high as the next worst countries.

 United States 10.2
 Switzerland 3.84
 Finland 3.64
 France 3
 Barbados 3
 Austria 2.94
 New Zealand 2.66
 Estonia 2.54
 Slovenia 2.44
 Belgium 2.43
 Malta 2.16
 Canada 2.13
 Israel 1.86
 Luxembourg 1.81
 Norway 1.78
 Portugal 1.77
 Czech Republic 1.76
 Slovakia 1.75
 Greece 1.5
 Sweden 1.47
 Denmark 1.45
 Italy 1.28
 Kuwait 1.25
 Iceland 1.25
 Germany 1.1
 Australia 1.05
 Ireland 1.03
 Hungary 0.85
 Cyprus 0.83
 Spain 0.63
 Netherlands 0.46
 Taiwan 0.42
 Poland 0.26
 United Kingdom 0.25
 Singapore 0.24
 Hong Kong 0.19
 Qatar 0.18
 Korea, South 0.13
 Japan 0.07

If we limit guns people will just kill each other with axes, ninja stars, and switchblades. At least that's what happens in other countries.

I know you're just joking, but for anyone who thinks this might be true ... it isn't. The non-firearm homicide rate is positively correlated with the firearm homicide rate. Not inversely correlated.

Countries with more gun homicides have more homicides overall. Countries with few gun homicides have fewer homicides overall.

A first-hand account of what it's like to accidentally shoot (and kill) your best friend.

If you're the praying type, pray that this harrowing experience never happens to anyone you know.

A prosecutor in Lapeer, Michigan says, “No harm, no foul,” after a charter school took the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) advice and hired a armed security guard who promptly left his handgun unattended in a student bathroom.

Cause, what could go wrong with having armed guards in every school? Wasn't he one of those good guys with guns? Fucking stupid.

Where's the account of Ted Kennedy killing a secretary with a quart of bourbon and a '64 Pontiac?

Greater access to guns leads to greater chance of suicide.
In Israel, it used to be that all soldiers would take the guns home with them. Now they have to leave them on base. Over the years they’ve done this — it began, I think, in 2006 — there’s been a 60 percent decrease in suicide on weekends among IDS soldiers. And it did not correspond to an increase in weekday suicide.

Classy.

Joseph Kelley, Utah Man, Takes Rifle To J.C. Penney To Show Guns Can Be Safe

He said he carries weapons with him in order to protect children and others from "criminals, cartels, drug lords" and other "evil men."

Can anyone tell me the last time they have been confronted with a drug cartel. The problem isn't with the 2nd amendment, the problem is with assholes like this who just want attention.

Why do Second Amendment absolutists oppose tracable ammunition? Why they say guns don't kill people, bullets certainly do.
