That's my favorite stomping ground! Where on the Amalfi coast? Just got back from my 11th year there last month. Rome is incredible too.

AND nothing like being able to take high speed rail from Roma to Napoli.......

We haven't settled on anything yet, my wife is doing a lot of the reading and planning. This will be our third trip to Italy, first was 4 days in Rome cut short by 1 day (a Boston blizzard heading out), second was our honeymoon (Venice, Florence, Pisa, Santa Margherita). We wanted to do Rome again and head south for maybe half the time. 8 days. We would prefer to end the trip in Rome, but the flight gets in at 3 PM on the first day so we may stay in Rome the first night then head south the next day.

Can you catch the high speed rail from the airport?

No but it's not hard to get to the train. You haver to walk down to the end of Fiumicino airport and and find the Leonardo Express. That train runs every 35 minutes and takes you from the airport to Roma Termini train station. There are kiosks for buying tickets, you can buy both legs from the same kiosk. Take the FrecciaRosa to Napoli, there is usually one every hour or 2, you can be there in 1 hour 10 minutes. And while you are on the train, think about how amazing it would be to have one here in Madison.
The slower trains are cheaper, but not as fun. Once in Napoli (watch your valuables!!!!!) what you do from there depends on where on the Amalfi coast you are going and how heavily you are packed! Staying overnight in Roma could be a good option, there are some nice hotels near the Termini so you can just jump on the train the next day if you want. Kind of a seedy areas but many hotels go out of their way to make up for it.

Forty some years ago, when I was in the Navy, our ship ported at Gitmo during training exercises. That was well before it because a prison for suspected terrorists.

Just got back from my first ever visit to Austin and surrounding environs.

It was 69 degrees on Sunday; I went for a dip in the Austin Motel's unheated swimming pool. It wasn't exactly comfortable, but at least it was physiologically conceivable.

Other highlights:

Smitty's in Lockhart. I had the brisket and the hot links. It was a religious experience.

Chicken Shit Bingo. 'Nuff said.

Did not, unfortunately, have time to check out Ralph the Swimming Pig.

Dig the pig:

Hope it doesn't take another 40+ years to get back there.
