Where is the Cap. Times? Re: Manski

Where is the Cap. Times? Re: Manski

Postby Westsidegal » Sun Feb 24, 2013 6:52 pm

The Capital Times (http://host.madison.com/ct/) have not done one article about the Manski affair which is probably the biggest local political event of the year so far. There has not been a news story or an opinion piece or an editorial or just an article saying that she withdrew. The news broke four days ago but there has been nothing from the Cap Times.

What's up with that?

There's this:

http://host.madison.com/ct/news/local/s ... f887a.html

Madison blogger Brenda Konkel groans today over the news that Sarah Manski, the lead vote getter in Tuesday's school board primary, is dropping out of the race. She says it would have been nice to know this three days ago and calls Manski's sudden exit a "blow to democracy."

The extent of their coverage and commentary is just to report what Brenda posted? Seriously lame.

Agree onthe lame. I think it might be for more of lackof resources than bias in favor of Manski. It's a bit disturbing, either way.

Lame? You were expecting, what, real journalism from Sarah Manski's husband's Liberty Tree boss -- Cap. Times's John Nichols? If you need to know more, just go straight to the source: Solidarity!

You might need a password to get in over there at Solidarity!. Try "swordfish".

A password is required to access the survey on the MTI website. Contact MTI directly (257-0491 / mti@madisonteachers.org), or an MTI Faculty Representative, EA Building Representative, or member of the MTI, SEE-MTI, EA-MTI, USO-MTI or SSA- MTI Board of Directors for the password.

Or get on the phone and call John Matthews. I'm sure he will patiently explain the entire thing to you.

Big John. Big Bad John. (Although you might not want to call him that, you know, to his face.)

Did I say Sarah Manski's husband? I see HERE John Nichols (of Cap Times) is the boss of social entrepreneur Sarah Manski herself.

Time for a Ben and Sarah Doe Investigation?

Hey Larry Lawrence, just for you buddy I emailed John Nichols asking why they haven't run any stories about this. I'll let you know if I get a response. I think it is quite sad that they're keeping quiet.

I got an email back and they are running a piece about the race in Wednesday's print edition.

I can't believe I have to ask this, but here goes:

What did John Nichols know, and when did he know it?

Day seven of The Capital Times news blackout of the Manski Affair.

Is this the day that the Cap. Times breaks their news embargo? We shall see.

John Nichols informs me he expected Ben to go to grad school here, as he had gone to UW Law. Says he did not know he had applied to Cal until after the primary.

http://m.host.madison.com/ct/news/opini ... 963f4.html

Sarah Manski did the right thing when she quit the race for an open Madison School Board seat just days after finishing first in the Feb. 19 primary. Manski’s strong primary finish had positioned her as the front-runner in the general election April 2. But after she learned that her husband had been accepted for graduate school in California, she recognized that it is not appropriate to seek a term of office she could not complete.

This editorial is pathetic.
