Workers are compelled to pay union dues in the same sense that you are compelled to pay taxes.
The union is accepted through a democratic process, just as taxes are the product of democracy. Yes, the individual does not have free choice to avoid taxes or union dues, but that is a pragmatic compromise that has to be made to have a society.
It is not realistic for you to both oppose mandatory dues and support the existence of unions. Without mandatory dues, unions disappear.
The ability to form a "closed shop" and collect mandatory dues was won by unions in the 1920's. Without it, unions are powerless.So you have to choose.
