Paterno: Why he should coach forever

Badgers, Packers, Mallards. Paddling, running, golfing. And bikes!

The Big 14 now has another Penn State. The coverup of abuse (albeit a different kind of abuse) at Rutgers is very similar to the PSU scandal. I wonder how many more heads will roll at the University of New Jersey.

I watched the video of the basketball coach heaving balls at players and didn't find it that scandalous. The use of "faggot" (if that is what he used) is a little worse.

I think the coach should get fired, he is way over the line. But I wouldn't say that he is a terrible person, or that he has done harm to anybody. He needs to get a handle on his temper.

There are now calls, (from both inside and outside of the university) for Rutgers president to resign. AD Tim Pernetti's job might also be at risk. This isn't going away anytime soon.

Time to kill this thread. Paterno has been dead for over a year now. He can no longer coach. Rutgers is not Penn State. Homophobia is not child molesting. If you think something new belongs in this thread, you are wrong. Start a new thread. It's easy to do.

More heads are rolling at Rutgers. An assistant b-ball coach and the AD are out.

Ya, after learning more about the case, somebody higher up had to go as well.

I think it's too bad that a hothead coach has to become a giant story, but the problem is that the situation was ignored.

That exactly what Rice said about himself. I think he is trying to position himself for another job. He might be qualified to coach dodgeball.

Yeah that just never seems to sink in. No matter how many times these guys watch what happens when other people try to pretend the elephant isn't in the living room, they behave the same way when the elephant wanders into their own living room.

Different sport, different issue. But Auburn also tried to sweep a scandal under the rug. EPSN is also on top of this.

I don't know who Paterno is, exactly, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't have much to do with Biking, generally, or most certainly, Recreational Biking. If it's in Spectator Sports it belongs, let's put it there.

It's time to clean up these categories, or maybe just correctly label them as Porridge1, Porridge2,, Slurry7, and so on.

Spectator Sports – or whatever it's contemporary label is – clearly needs it's own clay-lined trench into which it can pour it's ephemeral enthusiasm.

Let's give the rest of us a chance to blather about issues closer to home.

The entire S,R & B forum gets an average of 10 posts per week.

Within this frenzy of activity, is it troubling to ID & ignore threads of a "spectator sport" nature?

OK, I too have a tendency to put things in their appropriate boxes, I get the impulse. But lets go all the way and make this functional:

Sports, real: Football, basketball, baseball, hockey, extreme fighting, moderate fighting, olympic events that can be traced to the Greek era.

Leisure time activities: golf, badminton, bowling, hopscotch

Biking - transportation

Biking - lyrcra, spandex and other displays of youthful vigor

Picnicking

Recreation - outdoor, armed

Recreation - mostly sober

I think that covers it.

It's not an issue of classification, but an issue of (lazily loose) grouping that diverts attention from more interesting categories.

Imagine if the rubric were "Porn, Recreation & Biking." Is that a heading that would likely attract people who were looking for a new bicycle commuting route? Or for recommendations of companies doing bicycle tourism? Or for suggestions of where to have an impromtu picnic on the sly?

For those interested in the activities of a subsidiary of a certain Pennsylvania state college, I don't think the choice of classification would make any difference, at all.

For the rest of us, it's just a thread about some dick's penis.

Paterno loyalists exact revenge

(Franco) Harris addressed the board Friday before the voting results were announced. His feelings for Joe Paterno have not changed. During his three-minute speech, Harris asked, "How did it feel to go after an 85-year-old man who was sick, weak and frail? Did it make you feel powerful?''

After the trustees' meeting, Harris, wearing a blue blazer with a white tag bearing the words "Member of the Grand Experiment" (a nod to Joe Paterno's term for academic and athletic excellence), congratulated the three new trustees.

He also added, "We're just trying to let people understand that we really don't like what happened on November 9, that (the trustees) they failed Penn State.
