I don't either.
Do you think it is a good thing that workers be compelled to join unions and forced to pay union dues? I don't.

Meade, please edit your post and get rid of the long link, it is screwing up format of forum.

Workers are compelled to pay union dues in the same sense that you are compelled to pay taxes.
The union is accepted through a democratic process, just as taxes are the product of democracy. Yes, the individual does not have free choice to avoid taxes or union dues, but that is a pragmatic compromise that has to be made to have a society.

It is not realistic for you to both oppose mandatory dues and support the existence of unions. Without mandatory dues, unions disappear.

The ability to form a "closed shop" and collect mandatory dues was won by unions in the 1920's. Without it, unions are powerless.

So you have to choose. Which side are you on?

Come all of you good workers,
Good news to you I'll tell
Of how the good old union
Has come in here to dwell.

[Chorus:]
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?

My daddy was a miner
And I'm a miner's son,
And I'll stick with the union
'Til every battle's won.

[Chorus]

They say in Harlan County
There are no neutrals there;
You'll either be a union man,
Or a thug for J. H. Blair.

[Chorus]

Oh workers can you stand it?
Oh tell me how you can.
Will you be a lousy scab
Or will you be a man?

No one is compelled to join a union. But if collective bargaining goes on, non-union members pay their fair share for the benefits received through that bargaining.

They don't pay the part of dues that goes towards poltical action and they don't get a vote.

Workers aren't forced to join a union anymore than they are forced to wear shoes while at work. If you don't like the work rules then you can either work somewhere else or take the job and convince enough of your co-workers to de-certify.

And yeah, if the law requires an entity to provide a service then the law should also provide a way for those services to be paid for. Are you generally in favor of unfunded mandates or just in this one situation?

Maybe Wisconsinites can get jobs with the help of the state's Job Center website. Maybe not.
Nearly 1,400 Wisconsin jobseekers are being warned by the state about a scam solicitation that came through the state's Job Center website.

Meade, if you had bothered to watch that Zandi interview, you would have noticed that he claims that health care isn't the biggest drag on job growth, the effects of sequestration are.

I did watch the interview. He points to the drag on small business hiring due to Obamacare. At what point in the interview does Zandi mention "sequestration"?

Start a new thread for this. Somewhere along the line, somebody screwed up the layout.
