State Republicans proudly embrace the detestable behavior that national Republicans accuse Obama of but can't prove.

"If Republican Scott Walker had his way, Wisconsin legislators would no longer meet in the dead of night. Walker said Thursday that if you elect him governor, he’ll push for a law that bans any votes in the Legislature between 10 p.m. and 9 a.m."

Even Charles Sykes is berating the GOPers for trying to punish the Center for Investigative Journalism.

John Nichols makes an interesting case for unconstitutionality of the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism proposal:

John Nichols: Tragedy and farce in the Joint Finance Committee

Where are the conservatives on this government overreach?

The 14th Amendment or something. They are targeting liberal causes. Equal protection clause. Blah blah blah .... prove it.

Gotta love the way Nichols puts it:
exposed the details of Justice David Prosser’s physical altercation with Justice Ann Walsh Bradley

Turns out there was no "chokehold" and that it was Bradley who rushed at Prosser, not the other way around. Did the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism ever correct itself? Someone needs to investigate the Center's "journalism".

Shoe pinches when it's on the other foot, doesn't it?

Question: Where are the conservatives on this government overreach?

Meade: It was Bradley who Rushed Prosser.

Now that's critical thinking for you.

It's a stupid use of legislative power as well as a dumb move politcally, but Nichols seems to be making an overreach as well tbh. Stating that a state agency cannot allow a specific group use state property or that state employees cannot work with said group as part of their official duties is a lot of things. Most of them stupid, but it isn't a removal of any civil rights. We don't have a civil right to use universtiy property in exchange for offering students internships. The School of Journalism created a special relationship with the WCIJ and the legislature made a petty and moronic decision in the middle of the night to forbid that relationship.

Not saying there aren't other constitutional (other legal) rights that might be getting streatched a bit here, but Nichols' theory is a pretty big reach.

Note that I suggested Nichols angle was interesting, not valid or legally substantive.

Despite whatever legal or technical argument you can make to justify or accept the action, the motive is obvious and extremely ugly: it was an ideological attack. The move benefits no one, unless you consider shutting down an opposing voice a benefit.

Yeah, I was more pointing out the flaws in Nichols' arguement, it is an interesting arguement, but it looks like he's more trying to create controversy then make a good point. A simple discriptive list of several articles the WCIJ has been involved in since it's inception would have made a much better point.

Politically, this move is about a smart as jumping up and down in a crowd and screaming "DID YOU READ WHAT HE SAID ABOUT ME".

Turns out it was the way you portray it? Or it turns out the evidence was contradictory and inconclusive?

As far as the bounty hunter proposal, those in the Wisconsin criminal justice system universally oppose it. And guess where the GOPers in the Legislature got the idea:
In favor of the provision is the American Bail Coalition, a prominent member of the American Legislative Exchange Council, which has provided several model bills boosting the bail bonds industry. In this 2010 newsletter, ABC brags about its influence in ALEC.

I don't think Walker will sign it, but if he does, can you imagine a bounty hunter going to a private residence and the homeowner defending himself with lethal force under the Caste Doctrine?

And don't forget: between the wiretapping and new ruling on DNA swabs, they WILL know you did something wrong and WILL find you.
