Well he wrote "Hail Satan" on a post here so this doesn't surprise me. That was sarcasm people.

I'd like to know if his squad car missives were out of line compared to what other cops say. If I were defending him I'd request records of all squad car messages and pour through them. If others are doing it then there's no case for Wray OR...he's got a lot of firing yet to do.

The other thing I've always wondered...were Walter's posts here "authorized" by MPD? He went into internal police stuff from time to time. Maybe he's been a thorn in Wray's (and perhaps others) sides and this is a good time to try to jettison him.

A friend of mine is a police officer- word is that they did go through everyone's squad car messages- several other officers were pulled in and "talked to" (I say that because I am not sure if they were just verbally reprimanded or if there were written reprimands in personnel files) about their conversations on squad car computers. It sounds like while plenty of officers used inappropriate language, Officer Heimsness' communications went far beyond the occasional f-bomb.

And...is this possibly retribution for Heimness being active in the police union?

That would be "pore".
Finding out if others do the same thing is pretty standard procedure. I don't have all the facts, obviously, but typically in civil service termination cases, the employee should have received at least one warning, that has been documented, that the violation in question is a work rule violation, and any subsequent violation may be grounds for discipline up to and including termination.

So if MPD has done all their due process and Heimsness was dumb enough not to heed the warnings.....I'd say there is good cause for dismissal.

I have been enjoying all of the lefties on Facebook going on and on about how the process should be reformed so officers like this guy can be more quickly fired. This guy was and will be protected by his union! In fact he is very active in the police union. This public employee union overreach is what these lefties are protesting at the Capitol to protect!

I guess these dum dum Capitol protesting lefties love public employee unions until they don't. You can now thank Scott Walker for making it easier to get rid of bad cops.

So it is easier to fire him now? Or it isn't?

Or is it just liberals are bad?

BTW, just this week three other officers were cleared for shooting a mentally disturbed man in broad day light after a long standoff. Steve Heimsness was forced to make a snap decision in the dead of night alone because a drunk out of his mind Paulie thought it was cool to assault people. (Paulie first assaulted the homeowner then he decided to "get physical" with the responding police officer.) Heimsness is being thrown under the bus while there is not even a peep about the officers involved in the killing of the mentally disturbed guy.

I guess it is good to have friends in bands!

Here are some not-so-pretty details.

There's a fine line between insider humor and unacceptable messaging, and another not-so-fine line about using work communications systems in a circumspect manner. The way this article reads, it looks like both were crossed here.

The complaint is linked with the article. I haven't read the whole thing yet.

I'm halfway through.

He calls out a lot of cops by name. Sounds like a lot of our police force really has their heads up their asses.

Now I hope he does get canned. And then writes a book on MPD.

It would be nice for them to get a little info instead of dispatching every call like a homicide in progress.

2 days before the Heenan call.
