It seems the President is going to the funeral. I wonder if it would've been the same if the Romnoid were in office.

Mandela was one of the towering leaders of the late 20th century.

I remember the late 1970s when the Apartheid government of South Africa was courting UW officials and state legislative leaders with free trips. It was mostly Republicans who went on the racism junkets, but Democrat Snarlin' Marlin Schneider may have gone. He was kind of cantankerous and contrary to us Madison progressives. We tried to put pressure on him not to go, or if he did to ask the Apartheid government to add a stop to visit with Mandela. I'm not sure if Snarlin' Marlin went or not.

I did not know that.
Wasn't Mr. Schneider an open carry guy on the assembly floor?

Whatever, I think it best I remember more about relevant figures like Mr. Mandela.

I am unsure of what this drivel is about, but here it comes...

Goodbye qz,
What were you thinking?
Although, I am now clearly thankful to cut free from your escalating drivel.

This blog post is a reminder of just how repressive the apartheid regime was:

And history will look back less kindly on the 5th century Islamofacist death cult that is responsible for so much death and misery in the world today.

Oh crap. People, organizations, religions, have been trying to do 'the other' in for the entirety of recorded history. The 'Islamo fascist death cult' is no more or less than the thousands that came before it which I strongly suspect history will reflect. Just because it is your current boogeyman does not make it the most important thing in the history of the world.
Nelson Mandela, on the other hand, may be one of those most important things.

I am sad. It is a human condition, how angry we get when someone suggests that one of our most elevated and respected teachers might be just as human as the rest of us.

That piece was written by one of his countrymen and presents both sides of a very difficult heart-wrenching problem.

Yeah, the US government has a lot to answer for on that score, eh? Funding & training the Taliban, encouraging Hamas as a "counter" to al-Fatah, fulfilling all the stereotypes of the Great Satan across the Middle East and North Africa....

Or isn't that what you had in mind?

Right. The USA caused the Taliban and Saint Mandela had nothing to do with the terrorism of the ANC.

Interesting world you imagine you live in.

Poor Ronnie Reagan, no longer appreciated for supporting and training "freedom fighters," even by the crank wing of his own party. So sad!
