Local Christmas music?

Postby Kenneth Burns » Wed Nov 21, 2007 1:29 pm

What local artists have recorded Christmas music? Arena Venus' Yuletide Swank CD is the sine qua non of local Christmas music, I think, but are there other examples?

Rumor has it that Schabow (of Kites/Shabelles infamy, a sometimes bandmate of mine) is recording a Xmas album.

Digibot is alledgedly recording a Xmas song.

Waylan St. Palan & His Magic Elves play the holiday cheer live yearly, though I don't think they've ever officially recorded. (I have heard some good recordings of the band live, however.)

Two of 'em:
"Santa Cums Once a Year"
"Buy Alotta Shit This Christmas"
They should be ready by Xmas 2057 ...

And don't forget Art Paul. I mean, how could ya?

Mad Trucker Gone Mad just finished recording a Christmas song for some compilation CD or something. I haven't heard it yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

Yeah, I worked pretty hard on it this last weekend. The album is pretty much just gonna be demo quality with many bounced tracks due to layering...and, of course, will be given away for free to whoever wants one. The album was meant to be a jazzy type thing, but has turned more into a Ween "style" christmas album. Some great local musicians like Zar, Koch, the other Zar, Seven and RRNate will be performing on the album as well. That is if they don't back out after listening to rough recordings of the songs.

I need to hear that Wrong Way/Mai Rai christmas song. Let me guess, the three adult beverages are Vodka, Whiskey and Rum.

Back in 1999, an album called "My Holiday Wish" was created by local artists as a fund raiser for Thursday's Child. Here is the track listing:

Rachelle & The Red Hot Rattlers - Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree
Od Tapo Imi - Calypso Noel
Lynette feat. Ben Sidran - Dreidl
Cherri Simaggio feat. Richard Davis & Paul Hastil - The Christmas Song
Joeclub - Lord of Lords
Michael Massey - What Child is This?
Lynnea Godfriaux & Brad Pregeant - Christmas (Time) in New Orleans
Barb Lager - Can You Feel the Love
Road to Nowhere - I Believe in You
Kelly Dehaven Quintet - Christmas Time is Here
Moon Gypsies - Go Tell it on the Mountain
John and Susan Vitale - Mary's Little Boy CHILD
Madison Boy Choir - Nu ar det Jul igen
O'Bros - Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Daniel Anderson - White as Snow

I don't think you can buy this CD anymore, but I know there are a bunch floating around the area.

Hey Schabs, sign me up for one of them free records! I'll trade if you want.

Inspired by Spacetiki, I put our Xmas song on the Wrong Ways myspace page at www.myspace.com/wrongwaysmusic. And you got one right on the adult beverage guess (since Tom & Jerrys imply rum).

Postby Scott » Sun Dec 02, 2007 9:32 pm

Lest we forget-

You Shattered My Christmas - Phil Gnarly and the Tough Guys' local holiday "classic" of twenty or so years ago. Got some college radio airplay...

Hear it at www.myspace.com/philgnarlyandthetoughguys .
