An honest question

Postby TheBookPolice » Fri Apr 04, 2008 3:59 pm

Please do not misconstrue this post as sarcasm or snark. I am asking this question honestly, and hope for a legitimate answer.

While I'm gone for the weekend, I'd like to know something from the traditional persona non grata here. Ned, Tolerator, Fester, chubby, Woe, pulsewidth...you guys.

You know who you are, because you're the ones that everyone else tends to bitch about or fight with. What I want to know is this:

Is that how you want to interact here?

When you post, do you want people to read and digest without response? Are you trying to persuade those of us who would normally disagree with you? Do you come here to get into "fights"? I know I've wished that I knew more conservatives in real life, because I would occasionally get tired of agreeing with my liberal friends. I wanted a debate; are you after the same thing when you post here?

I want to know what your Golden Rule is on the DailyPage. You post your comments to the community; how do you want the community to respond?

I hope this question can be taken seriously. I'm going to clear out my Ignore list right now. I don't want there to be any impediments to open discussion starting right now.

that last response clears your record.
You are free.

Let them be.
Everyone is stupid and people are a problem.
But shit grows flowers.
We all fall out of our mom.
We're not brought up--we're dragged.
We breathe against our own will.
Our hearts beat without us.
We are helplessly alive and doomed to die.

So relax.

This is going to be the best summer ever!
Come on kids!!
Let's put on a mesage board!!!
We're gonna zoom-a zoom-a zoom-a ZOOM!!

Despite being well respected and wholeheartedly loved by all on this board, I do occasionally start shit other places. It's not hard to agree with everyone and do the "me too" thing. It takes a little more creativity to piss off the masses without getting booted (Stormfront.org is known for being quick with the banning).

I can't speak for anyone you named, and I doubt they'll respond (most of them are actually me anyhow), but here's what turns my gears when I'm set to 'irritate' mode:

Sometimes I just like to get a rise out of people. Sometimes I like to push their envelopes and offer arguments that no one else will use. Maybe one or two folks will change their minds, maybe not. Sometimes I like to poke and prod to see what's under the surface. Sometimes I just like to bother people who believe that the bible is clear on gays and guns and that's all they need to hear. Sometimes I play devil's advocate because 'mainstream' is often so lame.

P.S. - none of them are actually me. Or maybe I'm them? I don't think I'm you, anyhow.

This place is called a "froum".

Why is it that hard for some to figure out?

Here's where toolsheds start to talk about how not all viewpoints are welcome here, failing to acknowledge that it's anti-social tendencies which are annoying, not the views themselves.

Trolling, griefing, and posting anonymous "drive-by" attacks on people or things with no intent at engaging in a discussion don't add anything to the forum.

I find it endlessly entertaining that Pulse and Ned to a certain extent continue with the exact behavior in a thread calling them out on it.
