tree removal service

Postby anaranjado » Wed Aug 06, 2008 4:18 pm

I have an old birch tree in my back yard that may have to be removed. So, I am looking for a recommendation for a tree removal service. Any recommendations?

Schedule it for January. It will be a lot cheaper. Dane County Tree Service.

Wolfe Tree Service - 438-2156

They're reasonable and do great work.

Just a quick piece of advice: If it costs extra to have them haul it away, don't pay it. We had two trees taken down in our backyard this spring (a birch and a pine) and spent an afternoon hauling the logs out to the curb. By morning, they were gone. The city took the brush away a few days later.

Free firewood is a big deal, evidently.

Birch, however, isn't the best firewood simply because it burns really fast.

Looks great next to the fireplace though, and you sure can't beat the price.

This site puts yellow birch pretty high up there in BTUs, and white birch right in the middle.

Probably because it burns quickly, like I said. I didn't say it didn't burn hot. My point was that most people like to bask in front of the fireplace without having to get up every 15 minutes to heave a new log on the sucker.

Yeah, but free wood is free wood and birch makes such a beautiful flame. You can almost read by it. A nice stack of birch next to a firepit on a September evening, hot dogs, alcohol, clear skies, and I'm fine.

Even better with a stack of birch and another stack of oak but sooner or later you have to quit hunting for firewood and sit down by the fire.

Everybody's birch trees are dying this summer from some disease or pest. We lost a couple right in my block. Does anyone know what is going on, like an insect that has moved its habitat northward?

I am wondering because Madison used to be right on the south boundary for viability of birch trees. Maybe climate change has pushed that border north.

You're going to come all the way up from Texas to remove a birch tree? Yeah, that should be pretty cheap.
