Cheap Trick benefit?

Postby markkay » Tue Jul 07, 2009 4:40 pm

The Barrymore's website says that the Cheap Trick show on Monday, July 27, 2009 is WheelFest - A Benefit For "Wheel." Anybody know what that is all about? Who is "Wheel"? Just curious, and apologies if this has been asked and answered already.

It's a benefit for their fans who now get around in in a Hoveround® or a Rascal®.

I believe he was also the fellow you hear at the beginning of Live At Budokan, the voice who announces them. "ALL RIGHT, TOKYO!!!!!!", etc.

Yes, I was a litle snarky, but it was self-deprecating humor as I am in my 60s.

After I found out it will be a benefit for a roadie in poor health, I felt kinda bad about my comment.

Wheel has also been immortalized in Cameron Crowe's film "Almost Famous."

No big deal. I'm getting closer to my declining years myself, but you probably figured as much from my question about Cheap Trick.

A little rock and rock trivia - the Grim Reapers, who morphed into Cheap Trick, were on the bill with Otis Redding when Redding's plane went down in Lake Monona. I was living in UW dorm at that time and heard the annoucement of the crash on WISM.

Wheelfest is a benefit being held for Kirk Dyer, who used to work with Cheap Trick and has been diagnosed with cancer. There are 2 events that I know of starting with a Poker Run on Saturday, July 25th departing from Club LaMark on S. Stoughton Road at 12:00 noon and ending at the same place around 5:00. Calico & The Channel Cats will be performing outside at Club LaMark from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wheelfest continues on Monday, July 27th with a performance by Cheap Trick, with the John Masino Band and The Rousers opening. Cost is $40.00 for both the ride Saturday and a Cheap Trick ticket, the ride alone is $15.00 and only $5.00 for the band on Saturday at Club LaMark. For more information, call Club LaMark. Hope this helps.

I met a couple of amazing people today that came all the way from San Antonio to attend the benefit. Mike and Leanne.

I'm sorry I missed Wheelfest.
