Klimate Kooks Korrekt

If it's news, but not politics, then it goes here.

Klimate Kooks Korrekt

Postby brentron909 » Tue Feb 08, 2011 1:32 pm

So the UW-Madison and various state agencies just released a report based on a comprehensive localized climate analysis. The long and short of it is, we are looking at an average increase in temperature upwards of 6 degrees statewide. Northern Wisconsin looks to be the most succeptible to the change, while Lake Michigan regions will be more insulated from the changes. Everything from farming to tourism could be in a state of flux.

Predicted spin? Al Gore will blame our greedy consumption while Ron Johnson will work in a theory about sunspots.

Localized climate analysis? Isn't that the sort of thing climate people rail against? Aren't some parts of the world actually getting much colder?

Localized to this board, the air is getting much hotter.

Meanwhile, we will die in a superstorm.

I, for one, look forward to the day when my property value skyrockets due to snowbirds fleeing flooded Florida.

Several issues here.
1- Who are these "climate people" to whom you refer? What leads you to believe that anyone "rails against" this sort of analysis? Even those who dispute anthropogenic climate change acknowledge that climate shifts exist. In fact, they often employ their "vast knowledge" of historical climate change to dispute humans' role in the current trends.
2- Yes, some parts of the world ARE getting colder. What does that have to do with this particular analysis (hint: think "localized")? Isn't it likely that other locales are preparing similar reports, although assessing the need to adapt to a localized cooling trend?

You do yourself a disservice with your apparent knee-jerk reaction to any news concerning climate trends.

You are correct that short-term, localized weather patterns are not directly relevant to the issue of global warming.

But the press release is about longer-term trends across the entire state of Wisconsin.
A 1.3 degree rise in average temperature over the past 60 years indicates that global is happening now.

Actually, the main point is about the report on predicting the impacts in the future, and how we should plan for it.
Natural habitats
- Earlier onset of spring may alter relationships between plants and pollinators, affecting reproduction cycles.
- Some wildlife, fish, and tree species now at the southern edge of their ranges in Wisconsin may move out of the state, while species more tolerant of warmer temperatures will expand.

Agriculture
- A longer growing season may help boost agricultural production.
- Hotter summers could reduce yields of crops such as corn and soybeans.

A fact Crocko might have figured out if he wasn't too fucking thick to ever do his homework and actually follow a citation around here. As usual, the idiot gets a big fat F for the day.

You're a far more patient soul than I to hold his hand and sound out the big words for him. Kudos to you, though before you choose to continue down this path I'd recommend you opt instead for clobbering yourself repeatedly in the head with a large mallet. You'll find it a more enlightening experience overall.

Charles Monnett, who first publicized polar bears dying of exhaustion after being stranded between melting patches of Arctic sea ice, has been suspended on suspicion of "possible scientific misconduct."
No doubt this comes as welcome news to the drill here drill now crowd and will be touted as proving those climate change idiots are just a bunch of cranks.

The problem is, now they can't yell "Those cranks are just looking for funding! It's all about the money!"

"Of course he's spouting that global warming nonsense; he hasn't been suspended yet." That one just doesn't have the same ring to it.

If he would've worked for the BU$H administration, he would've been promoted or received the Congressional Medal of Honor like George Tenet did for lying to start a war in Iraq, as Tenet admitted during the Congressional investigation.

Senate: Saddam saw al-Qaeda as threat By JIM ABRAMS, Associated Press Writer Fri Sep 8, 2006
They also said, in remarks attached to Friday's Senate Intelligence Committee document, that former CIA Director George Tenet had modified his position on the terrorist link at the request of administration policymakers.

Levin and Sen. Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia, the top Democrat on the panel, said Tenet told the committee last July that in 2002 he had complied with an administration request "to say something about not being inconsistent with what the president had said" about the Saddam-terrorist link.

They said Tenet acknowledged to the committee that subsequently issuing a statement that there was no inconsistency between the president's speech and the CIA viewpoint was "the wrong thing to do."
"Vetted," BU$H-style...
