Madison bars serving Tom & Jerrys ?

Where are you eating and what do you think? What's opening, closing, succeeding, failing?

Quite a few local dive bars used to, at least, serve them using the Mrs Bowen's mix around the holidays. Not sure about "from scratch", though.

If you don't mind the premix, prep is incredibly easy.

I loved the premix as a kid (minus the alcohol). I've made it from scratch, and I still prefer the premix, probably because of that....

The old 602 Club had great Tom and Jerrys every year about this time. What a nice memory, coming in from the cold (which we don't get any more) to order up a nice hot drink in a little white mug.

And just yesterday, the NYTimes had an article about the Tom and Jerry. Apparently it's an only-in-Wisconsin thing, or nearly so.

Lived here all my life and I haven't had one and have only vaguely heard of it.

How can they publish that story and then not give a recipe for how to make it. I know I can search the interwebs, but you would think it would make sense to list the recipe after an article about an obscure regional drink.

Same here, and thinking about it now I realize I've only ever had the batter, never a Tom and Jerry drink. I think I have a new Christmas project!

As are Brandy Old Fashioneds. I tried to order one at an NYC bar back in 1968 and was met with a blank stare.

Does Wisconsin still lead the nation in the consumption of distilled grapes?

Recipe:

It basically sounds like cake frosting with nutmeg.

I was just thinking about that today. Sardine has a great homemade one. Takes a bit of time for them to make it, but damn. Tis the season.

See, I've heard that "wisconsin-style" is more liquor than 'batter', as opposed to the normal, which is the reverse.

From the article:
"It’s cold here nine months out of the year.”
Clearly he hasn't been in Wisconsin for a while.

I'd never heard of Tom & Jerrys until recently. I look forward to trying that recipe.

Never could understand the appeal. I guess I prefer my salmonella in shot form.
