Shutdown!

Races for the Senate, U.S. House, etc. and other issues of national importance.

Shutdown!

Postby Average Joe » Sat Sep 28, 2013 1:16 pm

So the GOP leadership is so fearful of the Tea Party monster it created that they have decided to fellate Calgary Cruz's ego instead of doing their public duty to keep the government running. Guess what will still keep running on schedule? Yup, Obamacare, it is already funded. Meanwhile the middle, working, and poverty classes will suffer.

[sarcasm] I can hardly wait until the debt ceiling deadline.[/sarcasm] I wonder if they will scream ululating cries and scream ALLAH AKBAR! as they rush to blow up the world economy.

All the more reason to defund, or delay.

Or at least remove he exemptions for congress, government workers, unions and thousands of other special interest exemptions.

The government can't run the post office in the black. Can't run a food stamp program efficiently, etc. Why would anyone think that the government can run healthcare? You all know that they can't, so what is it? A matter of power.

None of these statements is based in reality.

The ACA is not a gov't run health insurance plan. Insurance companies run their health care programs, in compliance with the laws.

Which is too bad, because none of them is likely to be as efficient as Medicare.

It was stupid enough the last time the Republicans threatened to shut down the gov't in order to cut the Budget.

But shutting down the gov't to protest a program that won't get shut down is stupid squared.

Why? The law was fully funded when implemented and has a net $0 contribution to the debt or deficit.

The only reason the Postal Service is in trouble is because of the unreasonable demands that the Republicans demanded that the USPS fund 70 years ahead of retirement benefits. Only a psycho Teabagger would spout such nonsense.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/09/0 ... tal-Crisis

"The ONLY reason the USPS is near bankruptcy is the skimming of over $5 billion a year in “trust fund payments” enacted by Congress and the Bush Administration in the 2006 PAEA law."

Yes it was fully funded when implemented by law. You are aware that Congress can change laws?

And it isn't only defunding, it is as much or more important to delay it until fixed, or replaced. Even the lead democrat Max Baucus who helped write the ACA called it a train wreck.

You are aware that the House Rs have already voted to repeal the ACA over 30 times and it hasn't been undone and won't while Obama is President.

Hope you can hang on until your next Social Security check is written.

The House Rs are the left now?

I guess it makes sense. If you head far enough west, you'll find yourself in the east.

And what exactly do you have against requiring everyone to pay their fair share into what everyone will eventually use? This law prevents us payers from paying for the moochers that use and refuse to pay. At a rate that limits corporate profits....oh, is that it? Are you pro moochers and pro corporate profit moochers?

Regardless, I'd rather the crazies shutdown the government than default on the debt limit. A shut down will damage the economy, but will not snuff it like a default will. I'm looking at it this way, would I rather take a 25% hit in my stocks/401K and a couple years so slow growth with a shut down or a 60% loss kick in the nuts with default and a decade of slow growth due to the infantile antics of the crazies that the south elected to congress? Hopefully the blowback will be severe enough after the shutdown that the tea/GOP will decide to take their anti-psychotic meds long enough to realize the damage they are doing to our country and future.
