Obamanomics working

Postby Stu Levitan » Fri Dec 06, 2013 12:30 pm

203,000 new jobs, unemployment lowest in five years. And just think how much better it would have been without the GOP economic terrorists in the House of Representatives!

What's that labor participation rate again? How many are now on "disability".
Obamanomics indeed.

I give up. What are they? Could you compare and contrast them with the job numbers and unemployment rate?

Ned, care to compare and contrast job creation under W and Obie? Here, let me help. (Hint: Our guy wins by a wide margin -- more new jobs in under 5 years than in W's 8 years).

The participation rate has declined sharply since the recession started due both to cyclical reasons and also because of demographics (baby boomers retiring) and long term trends (more 16 to 24 year olds staying in school is an example)

Thanks. So basically the unemployment numbers mean nothing because baby boomers are retiring and kids are staying in school?

Here's a link to labor participation rate trends. And you wonder why the unemployment numbers look so "great"

Oh, and the labor participation rate is increasing for senior as they see their home values and wealth destroyed by Obamanomics:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/won ... heres-why/

"Economists disagree, however, on exactly how much demographics are responsible for the fall in the participation rate. The Chicago Fed estimates that retirements accounted for only one-fourth of the drop in labor force participation since the recession began"

Okay, thanks Ned. Boomers retiring, kids staying in school = Obama's fault and these things would never have happened if we had voted for Romney.

Not to derail the mystifying gifpalooza, but here's some actual information by UW economist Menzi Chinn. See also his analysis of the job numbers, linked from that page.

That is going to be my standard reply to wing nuts whose only purpose is to hate on Obama.

And it's a better reply than a gif.
