"Scientists to test Malibu Kelp for Fukushima radiation"

http://smdp.com/scientists-to-test-mali ... ion/131611

A research team led by UCLA ecologist Peggy Fong will take 15-pound samples at locations off Escondido Beach and a second site near County Line Beach sometime between Feb. 24 and March 5. More than 20 labs and universities will take place in the effort, called Kelp Watch 2014, testing 35 sites from Alaska to Baja.

TEPCO has revised the readings on the radioactivity levels at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant well to 5 million becquerels of strontium per liter – both a record, and nearly five times higher than the original reading of 900,000 becquerels per liter.
Actually 5-1/2 times higher, not "nearly 5 times"...

No worries, it's only going to get better...

February 08, 2014
Two magnitude-5 earthquakes struck off the coast of Japan’s Fukushima prefecture, the site of the 2011 tsunami and earthquake that killed more than 18,000 people and sparked the world’s worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl.

Yet another twist...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldne ... plant.html

07 Feb 2014
Dozens of American sailors who assisted Japan during the 2011 nuclear disaster are suing the operators of Fukushima power plant for more than £612 million (US$1bn) in damages, claiming that they have become sick from radiation exposure...

... As they helped rescue victims and evacuate disaster zones, the claimants allege that they drank, bathed and waded through water contaminated with radiation from the damaged nuclear power plant and were reportedly exposed to radioactive plumes.

Headline should read "...DIRECTLY into Pacific," since Fukushima Daiichi has been dumping LARGE quantities of radioactive water into the Pacific for years already. Pacific tuna is no longer part of my life. How 'bout y'all?

I'm sure the WTO will, or already has, stepped in to make the distinction illegal. Do you remember when they ruled that labeling Tuna "Dolphin Safe" was an unfair trade practice? So now anyone can put that label on whether it is or not.

The third link on the results pages from the first search you link to is the one to pay attention to. Here, I'll pull it out for you:

http://deepseanews.com/2014/01/all-the- ... a-impacts/

Simple summary: Radiation from Fukushima is not detectable on the west coast of the U.S. That doesn't mean it isn't a disaster; it just means it isn't a disaster for the U.S. Does that make it seem less important? I would hope not, but, frankly, I assume that's why all the claims that it is a disaster for the U.S.--to get us to pay attention. But that doesn't make it true.
