Is Walker now in the presidential race?

Postby Henry Vilas » Tue Mar 25, 2014 4:42 pm

Scott Walker is in Las Vegas meeting with a billionaire casino owner (and a huge GOP money man) to vie for campaign dollars.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's coyness about his political ambitions will have to take a back seat this week when he and three other presidential aspirants head to Las Vegas for the "Sheldon Primary."

That's what many are calling the spring meeting of the Republican Jewish Coalition at The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino, owned by casino tycoon Sheldon Adelson.

"Certainly the ‘Sheldon Primary’ is an important primary for any Republican running for president,” former White House press secretary and current RJC board member Ari Fleischer told the Washington Post. “It goes without saying that anybody running for the Republican nomination would want to have Sheldon at his side.”

An anonymous "senior" Republican strategist told the Post that the presidential hopefuls "are just falling at his feet.”

“It’s a bunch of people out scrounging for the same dollars, and Sheldon represents the largest or second-largest box of money,” the strategist said.

With the Koch brothers money as well as Adelson's, Walker should have quite a bankroll to run for president. But he isn't the only one kowtowing to the gaming king.

“He doesn’t want a crazy extremist to be the nominee,” Adelson friend Victor Chaltiel told the Post. “He wants someone who has the chance to win the election, who is reasonable in his positions, who has convictions but is not totally crazy.”

Besides Walker, the lineup of non-crazies this week includes former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

That certainly implies other potential candidates are looney.

Trying to look presidential, he is now issuing foreign policy statements.

Scott Walker can see Russia from his deer stand

“To me, if you have a strong America led by a strong president who makes serious statements about what they mean not only on national security and foreign policy, but on all other issues, we're not going to be faced with many of these situations because people will know if they're allies we can be counted on, and if they're adversaries, not to mess with us.”

— Gov. Scott Walker, criticizing President Obama’s foreign policy in an interview with the Washington Examiner

I can see why he couldn't finish college.

Walker sounds as erudite on the issue as G.W. Bush, who failed to protect the country against terrorism on 9-11, and who lied us into a war trying to look "strong." Reagan, of course, ran when the going got tough in Beirut. Probably the best thing he ever did in my opinion. Then he attacked some fourth world country just to prove to himself he wasn't a total failure.

Walker has the lying, stupidity and gutlessness down, so, yeah, that and just saying "protect Israel at all costs" is about all he needs to get Sheldon's money.

I have some questions for you, if you know:

Has Walker gotten any Koch money yet? Adelson money? Or is he just asking for it? And why would the liberal (libertarian) Koch brothers support a conservative like Walker?

Seems like they would be more likely to support a liberal like Paul, Cruz or Gary Johnson (If he runs).

Adelson is, I think, somewhat conservative but why would he support Walker in the primaries rather than someone else?

Walker is just 1 of about 31 potential repo candidates who will be hitting them up for money. You seem to think he is the automatic choice. Can to explain why?

And remind me: How much money did the Koch brothers spend in 2012 on primaries and on the general?

How much did Adelson spend?

How is it that someone smart enough to make the gazillions of dollars Adelson has invest any one of them in a sure loser like Scott Walker?

http://theweek.com/article/index/258644 ... -on-losers

Actually looks like he might finally get it. This time around he's looking for the candidate that can win and be his lap dog, not just the best lapdog. If I were buying a politician I'd also prefer he could win an office.

Is this a sign that Walker will be running for president?

Gov. Scott Walker is looking to get a college degree through an online course.
...
Walker dropped out of Marquette University in 1990. He was studying political science but says he's also interested in courses on finance or leadership.

Finance and leadership, two areas in which he is extremely deficient in knowledge.

He's not even enrolled, he's just using the conversation to promote the UW Systems flex education program (and his "role" in creating it). His statements make it pretty clear any enrollment is dependant on the program adding three new fields of study and would happen somewhere down the road.

I don't think Walker had any experience serving people who clearly weren't in a position to help him in return. Comparing him to an actual public servant doesn't pass the smell test. He's as venal as they get.

Walker refuses to say he will serve out a full term as governor if he is re-elected. Burke should stress that in her campaign and during any debates.

A spokesman for Democratic challenger Mary Burke criticized Walker’s latest comments, saying that if elected, Burke would be committed to completing a full term, and pointing to Wisconsin’s lagging job creation compared to its neighboring states.
