BRIDGET MANIACI ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR 2015 MADISON MAYORAL ELECTION

Madison, WI- Former Madison Alderperson Bridget Maniaci announced today that she has filed paperwork to run as a candidate in Madison’s April 2015 mayoral race.

“Over the coming weeks and months I look forward to engaging directly with Madison’s many diverse neighborhoods and communities about the direction of Madison’s future and its need for catalytic leadership.”

Given the excitement and scope of the public’s attention to Wisconsin’s gubernatorial race, Maniaci will announce supporters and members of her campaign effort later in the fall.

The Wisconsin State Journal editorial board wrote in their 2011 endorsement of Maniaci for reelection, “Maniaci showed courage and deep commitment to public service during her first term … Maniaci is accessible, disarming and thoughtful. She’s become a key coalition builder on the council with strong advocacy for parks, bicyclists and tenants.”

Maniaci, 30, served four years on the Madison Common Council representing the diverse east isthmus 2nd District. She was elected in 2009 after unseating incumbent Brenda Konkel and had the endorsements of Mayors Dave Cieslewicz, Paul Soglin and Joe Sensenbrenner in her election. Maniaci served a year in the Mayor’s office while attending UW-Madison in 2006 and 2007.

In her time on the council, Maniaci authored significant legislation on tenants’ rights, building inspection improvement and citizen voting access. She served on many city committees including those on housing, transportation, homeless issues, landmarks and sister cities. She spearheaded development of the Capitol East Gateway and was instrumental in approving the redevelopment of the Edgewater Hotel and the Constellation development on the former Don Miller car dealership on East Washington Avenue, in addition to winning final approval of the replacement Tenney Park Shelter.

A fifth-generation Madisonian, and 2007 graduate of UW-Madison, Maniaci resides on Gorham Street and is working as a summer associate to the Center for Resilient Cities. Maniaci is completing a Master of Science in Public Policy & Management from Carnegie Mellon University, focusing on Urban and Regional Economic Development. She is an alumnus of the People for the American Way’s Young Elected Officials Network and has previously worked in accounts management and sales with Monroe Street’s Empire Photography.

While I certainly won't be voting for her, she is sort of a colorful personality and will add interest to the campaign. If Resnick or others are planning to run, this may force them to announce their intentions sooner than they may have planned.

Cue Hall & Oates:
She's a Maniac-i, Maniac-i
and you're voting like you've never voted before

Mayor Maniaci will be great for Madison! It is my hope that this time next year she will be working with Govenor Hulsey to get the state working again. Wouldn't that be the Dream Team!

Just what we need is another Mayor of Madison who is of the Liberal/Progressive/Socialist stripe. Yes a continuation of unabated spending on more Liberal/Progressive/Socialist programs is what we need to solve all of Madison's problems that have been created over the last 40+ years by Mayors and City Councils most all of whom were Liberal/Progressive/Socialists.

Yes the motto of our Liberal/Progressive/Socialist friends should be "Dream On, Spend On", that is until you run out of other peoples money to spend.

If Madison is such a hellhole, why does it have the lowest unemployment rate in the state?

The $4.5 million we are short because the state probably won't be sending money our way for schools.
