V Is for Vagina

Like Marilyn Manson and Slipknot, Puscifer (a side project of Tool's Maynard James Keenan) seems intent on appealing to music fans who crave shock value. For the rest of us, getting past the ridiculous album title and grotesque cover art is a chore. That's too bad, because the actual music burned onto this trashy little CD is good. It's down-tempo rock with an industrial, robotic feel. The rolling drumbeats and wailing of machine-like voices succeed in representing the feel of alienation. The track "Vagina Mine" makes you feel stuck in a lonely emotional canyon.

While I'm not hot enough on this album to say I'm lining up for a P Is for Penis sequel, Puscifer proves you can't always judge a CD by its cover.
