Mayor Dave's weekly whereabouts -- Jan. 14 - 29
on

Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz travels to Obihiro, Japan, one of Madison's sister cities. I wonder if he'll be able to catch the Packer game over there.

Anyway, Madison has a few sister cities. The full list:

  • Ainaro, East Timor
  • Arcatao, El Salvador
  • Bac Giang, Vietnam
  • Camaguey, Cuba
  • Freiburg, Germany
  • Managua, Nicaragua
  • Mantova, Italy
  • Obihiro, Japan
  • Vilnius, Lithuania

This impressive list leads me to wonder, however, about Madison's brother cities and why they never get any press. Many people don't realize that brother cities are where guys go with their brothers and/or brothers-in-law for a few days of ice fishing, beer drinking, fireworks shooting, snowmobile riding and football watching.

I'm talking, of course, about places like Eagle River (home of the Pond Hockey championships) and Rice Lake (home of stock car ice racing). Those are mine, anyway. If you have recommendations for other brother cities, add them in the comments.
