Compassionate Care up, Madison Metropolitan School District down
on

UP: Compassionate Care. A bill requiring hospitals to offer rape victims emergency contraception finally passes the state Legislature. It had been opposed by conservatives and Pro-Life Wisconsin, which referred to it as the "Chemical Abortion Hospital Mandate." Gov. Jim Doyle is expected to sign the bill.

DOWN: Madison Metropolitan School District. In 2006, the district allowed Anthony Hirsch to resign quietly from La Follette High School, despite a girl's accusations that he had touched her inappropriately. As part of the deal, the district agreed not to notify that state, as the law arguably requires. Hirsch later got a job with Waunakee Middle School, which did not know his history. He has since been charged with possessing child pornography and repeated sexual assault of a child.
