I took a time-out for a little Q&A with Res Dolls' co-captain, B'Dunkadunk, who bench manages the team this year, to check in with the fan-favorite skate crime syndicate.
The Daily Page: How is your season shaping up so far?
B'Dunkadunk: Unlike our undefeated season last year, 2008 has not been as fortunate for the Res Dolls. We are 0-2 going into the bout with the Unholies this week. Hopefully with a win this month we will have some momentum going into the semi-finals and finals coming up.
How have the Res Dolls changed as a team from last year to this year?
2008 has been somewhat of a rebuilding year for the Res Dolls. We lost a few of our veteran players after last season and have had to adjust to playing without them. Luckily, we did very well in the draft this year and picked up an amazing group of Rookies.
What improvements has the team seen?
There has been improvement across the board for our players this year. Practices have taken on a much more aggressive pace and the athleticism that has come from that has really stepped up the game for the league as a whole. We had 7 players on the 2007 Dairyland Dolls roster. Having that many girls playing at a national competition level and practicing for it all summer has improved our team as a whole tremendously. We also drafted very well this year and all our rookies have lived up to and exceeded our expectations.
What are some challenges you face?
Losing two of our four-year-veteran players has been challenging to say the least. We have also had some injuries that have kept some of our best players on the sidelines this season.
What was your off-season training like?
Because we had nearly half of our team rostered as Dairyland Dolls, there was not a lot of off-season to be had. We also began training at the Monkey Bar Gym this past summer so that players who weren't rostered as DDs could stay in peak shape and be ready for the 2008 season.
What is the outlook for the rest of the season?
It's anybody's guess this year how the season will end up. We are confident that we can pull off a win this weekend and go into next month's semi-finals with some renewed energy.
