J.B. Van Hollen up, Madison Pride Board down
on

UP: J.B. Van Hollen. Wisconsin's attorney general took his time (nearly 10 months) responding to a request to clarify the public's right to basic information obtained by law enforcement from motor vehicle records, but it was worth the wait. Van Hollen solidly affirmed that the federal Driver's Privacy Protection Act does not require that this information be suppressed, as some law enforcement agencies have been doing.

DOWN: Madison Pride Board. The nonprofit group that puts on the annual Gay Pride parade removed its treasurer from the board, after it found "serious financial discrepancies" in its accounts. The group says bills from the 2007 parade were unpaid, and this year's event, scheduled for July 19 and 20, will be "scaled back." No word on how much money is involved or how far back the problems go.
