Newly elected Common Council president Tim Bruer calls a meeting to discuss the upcoming (probably dismal) 2008-2009 budget. If you can't make it, don't worry. This is only the beginning of the lengthy budget process, which won't end until the council holds several, dusk-to-dawn meetings in the fall.

The developers of the proposed hotel at Hilldale are asking for final approval of their design. (The entire project must still be approved by the Madison Common Council.) The commission will also hear an informational presentation on the Allied Drive redevelopment project.

Whenever the CDA wants to crow about its success in redeveloping bad neighborhoods, it points to the Lake Point Condominiums. Unfortunately, as reported in Isthmus last week, several of the Lake Point residents have accused the project's Milwaukee developer of mismanagement, including neglecting maintenance. The CDA will discuss what action (if any) to take on Lake Point, as well as final approval for its plan to redevelop the Truax Park Apartments and Mayor Dave Cieslewicz's proposal to merge the CDA with the county's Housing Authority.
