Allied Drive Up, Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce Down

UP: Allied Drive. The Madison Common Council approves without controversy a rezoning request from the Community Development Authority to redevelop the troubled Allied neighborhood. The $7.5 million first phase of the ambitious project is 48 low-income rental units. The CDA expects to begin demolishing existing apartment buildings in mid-July and start construction soon after.

DOWN: Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce. The business lobbying group is the target of a campaign by Epic Systems, which announced it would try to avoid doing business with companies that support WMC. David Cullen of J.P. Cullen & Sons, which has a $200 million contract with Epic, recently resigned his membership from the WMC board and withdrew his group's membership.
