As reported by WISC last week, only 15 people attended Mayor Dave Cieslewicz's first public hearing for the 2009 city budget. Mayor Dave has called this year's budget one of the most difficult in recent memory, due to high fuel costs and other economic realities, and he's actively seeking input from the public in preparing it.
Tuesday evening presents another opportunity and, hopefully, more than 15 people will show up to the East District Police Station at 6 p.m. to participate in the process. The final hearing will be at the Central Library next Monday, August 18, at 6 p.m. Certainly, a large number of taxpayers will complain about the legislation after it passes, but it might make more sense, and possibly a bit of a difference, if that complaining goes on within earshot of the mayor and before it's been written.
