According to police reports, an altercation outside the Plaza Tavern in downtown Madison late Wednesday night led to one man suffering two fatal stab wounds in the chest.

At 11:38 p.m., Madison Police responded to 319 North Henry Street where witnesses said two groups of men had gotten into a dispute and a 22-year old man was stabbed. Police reports did not identify him, but state he is not a UW-Madison student.

According to a police report, bar patrons followed the suspect, 32-year old Justin R. Stout of Madison, and another man. Officers took Stout into custody.

The Plaza Tavern is a popular downtown gathering place among UW-Madison students, but also attracts a significant number of older patrons. The Madison Police Department's investigation of the homicide is ongoing.
