The board will discuss the latest proposal to bail out Overture. Under the plan, the city would buy the building for $1 and help eliminate some of Overture's $28 million in construction debt. Mayor Dave Cieslewicz has said no way. The board will also confirm Cieslewicz's choice for a new economic development director: Timothy Cooley, a UW-Madison graduate who has spent the past 20 years working on economic development issues in southern California.

Mayor Cieslewicz has been pressuring the Transit and Parking Commission to reconsider its decision last month not to raise Metro's cash fares by 50 cents, to $2. The TPC rejected the fare increase by a 7-2 vote and, so far, no TPC member has said publicly that they'll move reconsideration at Tuesday's meeting. Meanwhile, Cieslewicz has announced a proposal that would allow low-income individuals to receive a discounted monthly bus pass.
