Some have complained that Mayor Dave Cieslewicz's blog violates a policy regarding the use of city resources to maintain a blog, forum or chat room. Well, the mayor's updates to his office's website qualify as none of the above, which should silence any controversy.
First, you can't comment on the site. Yes, you can send Mayor Dave an email, but you can't comment directly on any of the posts (as you could on this post, if you'd like) and that kind of interactivity is essential to a blog. You also can't find a link to old posts, which is puzzling. The word blog, after all, is just a shortened term for "web log" and a log, on the web or elsewhere, generally features easily-accessed archives. Other bloggers looking for an RSS feed or permalinks for individual posts will be disappointed.
The idea that the mayor should use his website to communicate directly to the citizens is a good one. But instead of leaping into the social media pool, he's barely gotten his feet wet.
