Contributing writer Ron McCrea's cover story, "Out and About," reports that 38,342 Madison residents - almost one-fourth the city's population - are represented by elected officials who publicly identify themselves as gay or lesbian. Among them: Madison Alds. Ricardo Gonzalez and Jim McFarland, Dane County Supvs. Tammy Baldwin, Earl Bricker and Kathleen Nichols and board chair Dick Wagner. But McCrea, writing as the national Organization of Elected and Appointed Lesbian and Gay Officials prepares to meet in Madison, also notes that the four figures in artist George Segal's "Gay Liberation" sculpture at Orton Park were recently vandalized, with the word "Fag" spray-painted across their chests.
We're so gay!
