UP: Mystery Samaritan. A 63-year-old Madison man last week helped the cop who pulled him over for expired plates subdue a vagrant who took umbrage at the stop and began wrestling the officer. The assailant was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. The driver, who held the man's head between his knees and pinned his arm for handcuffing, was spared a citation.
DOWN: Mystery pedestrian. A 16-year-old girl who stepped into East Washington Avenue this week was hit by a car and taken to the hospital, where she spent the night with non-life-threatening injuries. Madison police gave her a $50 citation for unsafe crossing. Talk about the school of hard knocks!
