Michael Kaiser, president of the Washington, D.C., John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, will lead a symposium on "Arts in Crisis" at Overture Center Aug. 24. Among issues for nonprofits he'll address are fundraising, board relations, budgeting and marketing during the recession.
"I hope the words 'arts in crisis' do not invite fear," says Karin Wolf, program administrator of the Madison Arts Commission, one of the event hosts. "True, we are at a precarious moment, but the qualities it takes to be in the arts in the first place - boldness, vision and guts - those are the qualities of the kind of people that will find creative opportunities in this situation."
The event is free, but guests must register by emailing info@overturecenter.com (include affiliation, number attending and contact info). Kaiser will sign copies of his book The Art of the Turnaround at 2 p.m.
