Anyone who's ever re-parked a car to get a bit closer to the curb should eyeball this photo of a parked car on Livingston Street, between East Mifflin and Dayton. It's almost far enough from the curb to park an entire other vehicle!

At one point there was snow between the car and curb, but that all melted as of March 10. The car - a Volkswagen Jetta from the District of Columbia, with $10-extra license plates that whine, "Taxation Without Representation" - stayed where it was, night and day, 58 inches from the curb (should be a foot or less), for an entire week, without getting a ticket.

Indeed, the car was never cited for being too far from the curb, confirms Stefanie Niesen, parking enforcement supervisor for the Madison police. But it did get flagged as an abandoned vehicle on March 16 and was impounded two days later.

Call it confiscation without representation. That and about time.
