UP: Lazy voters. Wisconsin residents applying for driver's licenses would be automatically registered to vote under a bill proposed last week. The bill would also require the Government Accountability Board to seek other ways to automatically enroll voters, such as when they buy fishing or hunting licenses or sign up for public assistance.
DOWN: Law enforcement. Conflict between the Madison Police Department and the Dane County Sheriff's Office becomes public with an article in the Wisconsin State Journal. The jail has been refusing to accept some arrestees because they are too drunk or high or need additional medical attention. The city, noting that these arrestees have been deemed jail-ready and in some cases already received medical attention, believes it's the jail's duty to take custody.
