The Good Heart: Eternal mysteries
Brian Cox as the blowhard.
Brian Cox as the blowhard.

The Good Heart is one of those quirky indie quasi-comedies in which characters behave inexplicably, and shame on me for wondering why. But here goes: Why, out of the blue, does beautiful April (Isild Le Besco) propose marriage to Lucas (Paul Dano), the homeless guy who has been taken in by the hostile New York bar owner Jacques (Brian Cox)? Why does Jacques routinely drive away his customers, regulars and newcomers? Why does Jacques want Lucas to marry a 9-year-old? Would someone really lynch a kitten?

There isn't much more than what I've disclosed. I did enjoy a brief appearance by Broadway star and former Madisonian André DeShields. And Cox's performance as the blustering blowhard is interesting, but by the 10th time he referred to April as "that bitch," I was looking at my watch.
