Mayor Dave Cieslewicz has been saying for a long time that he won't decide whether to run again for reelection until this fall.
Just this week, he told Isthmus "I'm not going to make a final decision until the fall."
So, it seemed a bit odd, when Wednesday night, he launched a Facebook page inviting people to join his dog Calvin in supporting him. He also just started a campaign Twitter account, @DaveforMadison, and on July 6, he reregistered the domain, He adds, "At this point, I'd surprise myself if I decided not to run," but adds, "But I've been around politics enough to know that things can change quickly." The mayor says he's considered other political jobs, but "I'm not really interested in a political career. I'm interested in this job. I never had any interest in Congress or Washington at all." He says that when Gov. Jim Doyle decided not to run again, the governor encouraged him to run. "I thought I would be interested, but I really wasn't," Cieslewicz says. "I encouraged Tom Barrett to run and I'm glad he is. [Mayor of Madison] is the job I want. I enjoy it."
